Lecture by Gary Wolf, co-founder of Quantified Self

Against Behaviour Change

What would happen if we denied ourselves the use of the word ‘behaviour?’ We are thrilled to invite you to the public lecture of Gary Wolf (co-founder of Quantified Self) on Tuesday 14 June, organized by Quantified Self Institute. In his lecture, Gary Wolf will take up the challenge of behaviourism, explain what it means to be ‘against’ the concept of behaviour change and propose a collective experiment of renunciation: what would happen if we denied ourselves the use of the word ‘behaviour?’ What words and concepts would emerge in the space left open?

Simple-minded versions of behaviourism have been disavowed by contemporary psychology and social science. However, the vocabulary and intuitions associated with behaviourism continue to influence everyday practice associated with sensing and mobile health technologies; including clinical and research practice.

Gary Wolf will be installed as visiting professor at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in order to facilitate further collaboration between QS Labs and QS Institute. In light of his inauguration he will give a free lecture on behaviour change on Tuesday 14 June in Groningen. Places are limited, so be advised to register in time!
